The Reserve Force is structured, educated, trained, equipped and utilised to enhance the operational outputs of the SANDF.

The Reserve Force provides the SANDF with the ability to expand rapidly and respond to crises when the need arises.

The Reserve Force enhances close ties with the communities of South Africa and in so doing enhances the concept of good civil military relations.

The Reserve Force contributes to nation building and the achievement of national goals through participation in all military operations as well as operations other than war.

The Reserve Force participates in and enhances the achievement of all the military strategic objectives.

The Reserve Force provides South Africa with a cost effective, sustainable defence capacity in accordance with Government policy prescripts.
