JOHANNESBURG REGIMENT PARADES
Recently, Johannesburg Regiment once again executed on the time honoured tradition of having an annual medal parade and a commemorative parade in one week end. The history to this is that the Regiment exercises it right to Freedom of the City annually by holding a parade to commemorate the City and Regimental members that have fallen in service, as well as to celebrate its anniversary.

On 6 April 2013 Simon’s Town was brought to a standstill during the Freedom of the City parade as part of the Annual SA Navy Festival. Some Reserves Force Units of the Western Cape participated in the parade as part of a mechanized convoy and also formed part of the static displays as part of marketing the Reserves.
SOUTH AFRICAN AIR FORCE AGUSTA A 109 LIGHT HELICOPTER INVOLVED IN FATAL CRASH
On Saturday, 30 March 2013 at approximately 19h00 a South African Air Force (SAAF) Agusta A109 Light Utility Helicoter crashed in the Kruger National Park claiming the lives of five (5) members on board including the crew.

CHIEF DEFENCE RESERVES VISIT TO THE TANZANIAN PEOPLE’S DEFENCE FORCES 12-15 MARCH 2013
Chief Defence Reserves, Maj Gen Roy Andersen had the opportunity to pay an official visit to the Tanzanian People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) on invitation from his counterpart, Maj Gen D. C. Igoti, Chief of the Reserve Forces over the period 12th-15th March 2013. Maj Gen Andersen was accompanied by Brig Gen Debbie Molefe, Director Defence Reserves and Col Albert Makgae, Senior Staff Officer SA Army Reserves.

2012 saw a tremendous amount of development in the SA Army Foundation – not only in the launching of a variety of new initiatives, but also in welcoming a new Chairman of the Board of Control, Maj Gen L.C. Nobanda, as well as a new General Manager of the Foundation, Mr Angel Ramphele. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) formed part of the ceremonial proceedings during the opening of Parliament on Thursday 14 February 2013 in Cape Town. The Reserves played a leading role in the execution of the parade.

On 13 February 2013, Chief of the South African National Defence Force (CSANDF), General Solly Shoke, presented medals to members of the SANDF who distinguished themselves in the execution of their duties. The parade was held at the Wynberg Sport Grounds in Wynberg, Cape Town. Chief SA Navy was responsible for the co-ordination of the parade.
A TRIBUTE TO LT COL A.W. ROBERTS
Allan Roberts passed away on Saturday 26 January 2013 and was laid to rest on 1 February 2013, his coffin carried by six senior Warrant Officers from various Cape Town Reserve Force Regiments. A very large crowd attended the service at Christ Church, Constantia. It was evident of the high standing in which the 81 year old veteran was held.

On Saturday 19 January 2013 a passing out parade was held to celebrate the successful completion of BMT. The training was presented to 94 students from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), University of Cape Town (UCT) and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) by Cape Garrison Artillery under the auspices of the South African Air Defence Artillery Formation.

Rfn AB Sithole of Regt Botha passed away in hospital in the Sudan on 27 December after a short illness. He was deployed with the reserve company of Regt Botha together with 10SAI Bn on OP CORDITE in Sudan. Defence Reserves condolences to his family.

The commissioning parade took place on 12 December 2012 at the School of Armour, Tempe in Bloemfontein. The newly appointed second lieutenants will now be posted to their Reserve Force units and will undergo functional training

FIRST-CLASS CHANGE OF COMMAND PARADE AT FORT IKAPA
On Saturday, 10 November 2012, Colonel Bernie Ashlin formally handed over command of Fort Ikapa Military Base to Lieutenant Colonel Stephan Pierce. The change of command parade took place in perfect Cape Town summer weather, with the heat shimmering off the parade ground outside the Base Headquarters, and a very light breeze fluttering through the South African flags that lined the approach road.

On Saturday, 15 September 2012, the Defence Review Committee (DRC) held the final Imbizo of their public participation process at Nomzamo community hall near The Strand outside Cape Town. An important role in this event was played by various Regular and Reserve Force units of the SANDF in the Western Cape, which set up a static display outside the hall to give the community an opportunity to interact with the soldiers.
